Kevin Young

Chair

Retired. Kevin was formerly the General Counsel and Secretary of Towers Perrin, an international consulting firm. Before joining Towers Perrin in 1995, Kevin was Vice President and General Counsel of NYNEX Network Systems, NYNEX’s international business development company, as well as Managing Counsel of NYNEX’s Mergers and Acquisitions Group. Kevin has both his B.A. (Political Science) and J.D. from St. John’s University and a M.P.A. from Long Island University. 

Kevin joined the Board in 2018 and became the Chair in early 2020. Kevin has volunteered for several years in the Mission’s Bridges out of Poverty Program. Prior to moving to NC, Kevin and his wife Mary were involved with several ministries at Franciscan Charities, a Catholic organization which serves the poor of Newark, N.J.

Chris Kiral

Vice Chair

Chris Kiral has over 25 years of sales leadership experience in the home improvement industry.  He has worked for industry leaders such as Graco, PPG, Werner, Kohler and Valspar.   Over his career, Chris has made contributions through sales team leadership, business development, new products and markets, brand management and strategic partnerships.  Chris earned his BS degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University.  

Chris relocated to the Lake Norman area in 2001 and currently resides in Mooresville with his wife Lisa and three daughters.  Chris enjoys working out, spending time with family and friends and serving his community through William’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the Mooresville Christian Mission.

John Carter

Treasurer

John Carter had twenty-five years of commercial banking experience in New York prior to his retirement in 1997.  His experience included Credit Administration, lending to middle market companies and commercial real estate lending.  He holds a BBA from Hofstra University, an MBA from St. John’s University, and a Master of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University – New Orleans.

In the not-for-profit arena John has served on the board of the Lake Norman Yacht Club, and various commissions at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville.  In addition, he served for three years on the HOA board of his community.

From 1986 thru 1992 John represented the United States in various international sailing competitions for disabled sailors in the Scandinavian countries, Great Britain, Switzerland and Spain.

He lives in Mooresville with his wife Kathy, who is also an active volunteer, donating her time  to Williamson’s Chapel, The Give Back Boutique and Feed NC.

Thurman Houston

Board Member

Commissioner Thurman Houston, a lifelong resident of Mooresville, was elected as a Town Board Commissioner in 2007. After 40 years with Duke Energy, he started his well-deserved retirement in 2014. Houston and his wife, Lavetta, raised their family here in Mooresville, and it was only natural that he wanted to help shape the community he has been a part of for so many years. With a heart for service and a love for this town, Houston serves as Town Board liaison to the Mooresville Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Mooresville Beautification Committee, Mayor’s Senior Roundtable, Community Foundations of Mooresville, I-Care Board of Directors and The Mooresville Area Christian Mission Board of Directors. An active member of Peninsula Baptist Church, Houston exemplifies the role of servant leader.

Sharon Crawford

Sharon Crawford serves as the Town Attorney for the Town of Mooresville and has practiced law in North Carolina for over 10 years.  Sharon earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received her law degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University.  Sharon serves on the Board of Directors for the Mooresville Lake Norman Rotary Club and is a past president of the Club.  Sharon is also an active member at the Cove Church.  Sharon is married and lives in Mooresville, and in her free time enjoys running, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, gardening, and spending time with family.  

Suzanne Dewosky

Suzanne Dewosky currently works at Edward Jones Investments as a Senior Branch Administrator.  Prior to joining the Mission Board, she volunteered as The Mission’s Volunteer Coordinator for ten years.  Many of you worked closely with her to coordinate your individual and group time to serve our community.

Suzanne graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing.  She applied her education primarily in the advertising and human resource fields in New York and Chicago before her restarting her career locally with Edward Jones.

The Dewosky family are members of St. Therese Catholic Church where she has also served on their Stewardship Committee along with teaching in their Faith Formation program.

Robin Bornkamp

Robin Bornkamp is vice president of inventory for Lowe’s Home Improvement.  During her 20 year career at Lowe’s, she has held various leadership positions in inventory management, supply chain and merchandising.  Robin has both a B.S. in Business and MBA from University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Robin has served on the Board of Directors since 2018 and is passionate about serving the local community.  She previously served on the Board of Directors for organizations such as Lake Norman Soccer Club and Pleasant Grove Methodist Child Development Center.

Ryan Bloom

Board Member

Ryan is an investment professional and currently serves clients as a financial advisor at Edward Jones where he has worked for the past ten years. He began his career in financial services with Morgan Stanley in New York City working in Private Wealth Management as an advisor to wealthy families. In addition to his investment related work, he co-founded two start-up ventures with responsibilities for strategy, operations, business development, and client service. Prior to his time in New York, he worked in Washington, D. C. for the Corporate Executive Board (now a part of Gartner), a research and consulting firm. He began his career there as a researcher covering human resources issues as well as strategic matters for insurance providers and private banks. He eventually became the Director of the Internet Solutions Group where he and his team built and managed the firm’s numerous web properties and helped develop the firm’s online strategy. Prior to this, he taught U.S. History in Winston-Salem, NC.

Ryan is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he also earned a Master in Business Administration from Kenan-Flagler Business School. Additionally, Ryan has been active with the New Canaan Society, a national men’s Christian fellowship, where he helped found the Charlotte chapter eight years ago. He is an Eagle Scout and an avid reader. Ryan lives in Charlotte with his wife Wesla and their two young daughters.
